Hi. I’m Sophie Tott, owner of The Fitness Boutique.

I am mum to a five and seven year old, and a teenage stepdaughter, a qualified fitness instructor, and a DJ, composer and producer of music. Before kids I DJ’d around the world – playing in some of the world’s greatest clubs. I also love food. The Fitness Boutique brings together my love of music, food, and fitness and turns it into empowering, motivating workouts and lifestyle plans to help you make smart choices in nutrition and exercise to live a healthier and happier life.

I can barely bring myself to post the image on the left below, but I’m going to, to show how being smart about nutrition and exercise, can transform a body! When the picture was taken, I had had two children in relatively close succession. I had been pregnant or breastfeeding for close to 5 years. I weighed in at 12 stone 12, with a high bmi, and I was classed as ‘overweight’.

Me in July 2011

My youngest was a year old, and I felt ancient! I wasn’t hugely unhappy, just tired, lethargic, and worst of all very flabby.

My tummy, in particular bore the brunt of my childbearing and I had, to be honest, ‘given up’. I thought the days when I had a fit, toned body were behind me. I experienced seriously low blood sugar ‘moments’ where I had no choice but to reach for sweet, sugary snacks, and I had awful mood swings.

I wasn’t living what I considered (at the time) to be a hugely ‘unhealthy’ lifestyle. But I had my weaknesses: finishing off the kids meals (every single one!) cheese, cake, chocolate, wine, and coffee and I did very little exercise. I convinced myself that walking a few paces to the local shop ought to be enough to stay in shape. I couldn’t work out what was going wrong (duh!), but I figured something had to change, so I took a deep breath and got to work.

My first step was getting more active.  I began losing weight,  but as soon as I didn’t attend my full quota of 4 classes a week (which sometimes with two small children just wasn’t possible), the weight crept back on. However, I enjoyed my classes so much and wanting to enforce a healthier life upon myself, I signed up with the YMCA to qualify as a fitness instructor which I did at the beginning of 2012.

Me in July 2012 (sunglasses out for the lilywhites!)

As time passed, I became more and more interested in the latest research in the health and fitness world, and discovered eating ‘clean’, and I felt as though I had uncovered the holy grail. A shining moment of the angels singing! I learnt that eating ‘clean’ offered a way of life that would enable me to eat well, feel satisfied, AND leave me full of energy. With the right food, in combination with the right kind of regular exercise, the weight literally dropped off, and after what felt like years of waiting, I got my toned, buff body back. Friends regularly complimented me, and asked how I was doing it, and I began sharing the info I’ve gathered on the best foods to eat to stay lean. One friend lost 5lbs in two weeks simply by re-adjusting the way she ate, let alone increase her exercise.

I completed my training in nutrition and weight management so that what I learnt was now backed up with a proper foundation of accredited knowledge so I can now share what I know to a wider client base.

Now, my weight fluctuates by a couple of pounds here and there, but it’s steady. I’m healthy, fit, strong, and glowing. I am no longer crippled by hideous low blood sugar moments, and my mood swings are a lot less ferocious.

Best of all, I have plenty of energy to give my kids the fun mum they deserve, I enjoy family life, and still have enough energy left to run my businesses too!

The point of sharing my story with you is to demonstrate that at any time in your life, or whatever shape your body is in, it’s possible to make huge changes if you make the right choices. If you’d like to reshape your body, get your energy levels back, lose the last bit of weight to go until you reach your ideal, or better your health, then sign up to our monthly newsletter here, where I keep you posted about class, course and event news.

At the end of last year, I was proud to launch my fantastic online programmes which you can do in the comfort of your own home, with support, and which are easy to slot into a busy life. The results from them are stunning, and there is a great camaraderie in the groups I mentor. If you need a change and are ready to give yourself a healthy life, get in touch, and sign up to a programme. You won’t regret it, I promise.

Wishing you health & happiness.

  2. Hi Sophie

I’d really like to take part in your Jan detox, but I don’t eat any fish so are there meal suggestions that you will be able to substitute for me?

    Thanks
    Hannah x

    • Hiya Hannah,

There are loads of recipes to choose from – meat, fish, vegetarian, and on the January detox some vegan ones too. It’s all flexible and interchangeable so you can mix up the recipes to suit you and what you like best so there’ll definitely be some in there that you can substitute so you don’t have to eat fish :).
